Pye-rates of the Scarred-Myvi-ean : The Dead Road's U-Turn.

It was a tiring and eventful day! It started as a normal Saturday, with me (unwillingly) waking up at 6am for my morning prayers, sleep again, wake up again (unwillingly) at 7.15 and off to work at 7.45. Normal.

Right after work, me and a colleague of mine went to KL. What's the occasion? Well, taking into account my reluctance to drive into KL (yes Nina, I still am) that question deserves an answer:

IT WAS PYERUDZ AND SHIDAH'S WEDDING!

And so, armed with a not-so-sure-about-the-road-but-we'll-try-anyway colleague and a map printed from the invitation card, we set off to Pandan Indah to fetch a friend of mine. A couple of unnecessary U-turns later we reached the designated rendezvous point, only to make my blood go upstairs.

No, she (my friend) was not another LMC, nor was she late. It was a Nepalese on a bicycle who scarred My. He was lucky that after almost a year working around Nepalese, I come to realize that asking for damage repair payment (what's English for ganti rugi?) from a Nepalese is both mean and useless.

They may not even have enough money to repair their bicycle's brakes, seriously. Although that's nothing compared to our girls who *ahem* don't have enough money to buy decent clothes and had to settle with midriff (and everything in between) baring 1 size too small tshirts and a piece of cloth clad around their waist and even skimpier piece of cloth called a thong.

Nepalese Paintjob

At a glance it looks like modern art, right? If only it's on both sides

Back to yesterday's events, we then set off to somewhere in KL that I don't recognise and fetch my colleague's girlfriend. We then separated into 2 cars and he led me to the Pye's house according to the map. And 4 more U turns if you're counting it. My colleague and his girlfriend then went off somewhere else for something they had to do, and did not join us.

To our horror, we reached to the reception tent where the people was packing up! Tables were folded and everything else had been packed up. Since the people there had seen us, it's inappopriate that we just leave like that. So me and my friend approached the men folding the table

ME : Bang, ni kenduri kahwin Pyerudz ke? (Is this Pyerudz's wedding reception?)

TABLE MAN : Eh, bukan. Ni kenduri tunang. Tu sana tu rumah Pyerudz. Kenduri dia tak pasti pulak kat mana. (Oh, no. This is an engagement reception. That's Pyerudz's house. I'm not sure where's his wedding though.)

And several phone calls later, we came to know that it wasn't held at Pye's house, but a hall instead (Thanks Herman, you saved us). So back to the map we went, since A) Herman didn't know the exact location of the hall but for some landmarks, as his map is not with him at the moment, and B) the map's for Pye's house, not the hall. That's another map.

So off we went in search of a hall with a wedding. Another U-turn and voila! There it was. We were greeted by Pye's father (I presume) and the phobic me asked him, "Ni betul, kan kenduri kahwin Pyerudz (This is Pyerudz wedding, right)" while hoping Pyerudz is his real name or simlarly pronounced.

The thing is, when I were looking for the groom, I saw somebody else clad in baju pengantin (wedding dress). At that time, Nina called and confirmed me that that was the right place. Only after 10 ackward seconds later did I see Pye. It was actually a wedding reception for two couples. What a relief.

The whole family from all four sides

No professional photographer knows how to use my simple and cheap point-wait 10sec-and-shoot digicam, hence the blurred photo. Pye, can I have a copy of the better one? (:p).

After a series of apologies for being late and explanations done, photos taken, I thought it was a pretty good time for a good dose of movie. A good movie does wonder to my stress, and boy was I stressed, with all the U-turns and the incident. Not to mention exhausted. So off we went to KLCC.

Just when we're getting into my car, it rains. I can even see the rain coming towards me, and the kids were racing away from it. I thought only in flatlands and somewhere near the sea would we experience something like that (it was a norm back in Labuan). I guess I only assumed that knowledge, gotten confused, and now I assume new knowledge.

2 U-turns later we parked at the carpark near As-Syakirin Mosque. En route to KLCC, we came across this nice view. So if anybody ask me how do I know s/he's a Mawi fan, I can answer either it's the haircut (me excluded) or it's the plate number.

Just as we went into KLCC, it started to rain cats, dogs, and their owners outside. Feeling comfy inside, we went for a long lunch at Burger King and watched Pirates of the Carribean. Want to know what I think about it, wait for my next post, yah? I think this post is long enough, and the journey didn't end there and then.

Exhausted as I was, 3 hours of movie was too long and tiresome, even if it's as fun as the POTC. By the time we got out, it was past 10pm, and I still have my friend to send back, and both of us don't know the way. Expect more U-turns.

You see, I've never been to Pandan Indah before, at least not by driving on my own. And using the same road I used to go to Pye's wedding is not an option, because of the many detours we had beforehand. I simply can't remember the road we used.

So using my friend's unsure mindmap to her home, a on-the-phone map (a friend of hers), roadsigns and intuitions, we set off, with her constant apology and my constant teasing her filling the atmosphere. Indeed, after 7 u-turns, 9 calls to the guide, 14 occurence of "I think I recognise this road" and 23 "I think we should've turn the other way at the junction" sentences later, we managed to reach her house.

My journey home was luckily uneventful as only then do I know that there's only 7 junctions, 3 tolls and one long straight stretch of highway between our house. Phew!

This is a long and tiring post to write, and also to read, to show you what an eventful, tiring, and exciting day it was last Saturday.

Justified?

You must be kidding me...

I don't care if it's unscientific or unartistic or what ever, It shows that we just do not care. Go here to change it.

What Is Knowledge?

The problem with knowing is that we'll Assume everything else is like what we knew. But when we're wrong, we become confused, and Assume new Knowledge, and the cycle goes on and on.

We used to Know that the earth is flat, but that Knowledge was challenged, there was confusion, and we Assume now that the earth is of a spherical nature (oblong to be exact, for now). Who knows somebody would later say that Earth is actually irregular in shape, as atmosphere (air) and water do not count. We would by then Assume that that Knowledge is right, and how foolish are those before who thought the Earth is round.

We used to Know that the earth is the center of the Universe, but that Knowledge was challenged, there was confusion, and we Assume now that the Sun is the center of the solar system. Ironically, the same person who made famous of the round earth Knowledge is also the same person who said we're at the center of the universe.

So the question is, what is Knowledge? Is it a collection of Assumptions, limited by its demographic nature? Some say that Knowledge is a collection of interweaving Facts, but what exactly are Facts? Isn't it an agreed upon result of an Observation? And aren't Observations just Intrepetations of stimulis in our senses?

I hereby declare that I Know for a Fact that I don't Know anything. When I Assume new Knowledge I'll inform you.

You Pee 'em

Sorry, I don't mean to insult those who're related to a similary pronounced local university. After all, how can i make fun of others when the Degree I'm holding came from a university that's pronounced You Am Ass? Luckily it wasn't I Am An Ass. I wonder if there's an actual IMNS around here.

Now, student politics have been pretty much influenced by the real deal. Infact, many of our current elected leaders started off in politics during their educational years. Our elected leaders, can now watch their Mini-Mes at each other's neck.

When the papers wrote "pro-establishment" student body, I read the Ruling Party. When the news reports "anti-establishent" student body, I hear the Opposition Party. And seeing how they taunt and harass each other verbally and slightly physical deeply reminds me of the Parliament. Add in some more physical actions and we see Taiwan in the making.

I've always hated politics, and even more so when I hear the "You cannot agree with a decision made by the Opposition". What, all Opposition ideas are bad? Somehow, the Representatives in Parliament forgot whom their representing. We, the ones who elected them in the first place, gets thrown around in their selfish acts.

Not all, I must admit. Some actually do serve the People. In fact, most initially serve the people well, before wealth and power become more important. But riddle me this: name me the most "for the people" Representative in the Parliament right now. and what did s/he do lately "for the people". Seriously, I'm getting less and less convinced by our leaders, both Ruling and Opposition Party. No, repairing roads 3 months before the election do not count.

Evening News

An interview with a Malaysian, A (not the person's real name) about the news last evening,

A: News? Oh Siti's getting married to Datuk Khalid at last. They're getting both going to be engaged and bernikah on 21st August, and have 2 wedding receptions on the 28th August and 3rd September. You want me to into details? I can give you some views on what I think about their marriage.

Me: Even Mawi's story have dimmed out, yes?

A: Yeah. I think there's no new story on him as yet. But I've gotten some inside story on them from my sources. I know a lot of gossips, you know.

Me: No thanks. I think my email inbox is full of them already. by the way, what about the tsunami in Indonesia?

A: Tsunami? Isn't that an old story. It's more than a year already.

Me: No, there was a Tsunami in Indonesia yesterday, in Pulau Jawa.

A: Oh, I think I missed that. (Scratches head)

Me: What about Israel's 7 day long attack on Lebanon? And Hizbullah's retaliation at Haifa?

A: Haifa? Where's that? I think I switched channel after that.

Me: oh...ok... (walks away)

Familiar, eh?

Everybody Loves Controversy

Ever feel f*cked up everytime you fill up your petrol (or gas, or diesel)?

Ever wonder why does a small fuel-efficient car like the Smart line of cars is taxed up through the nose, rising it's price until it's only for the rich, while it's actually a need for those with mid and low incomes?

Ever wonder why there's no alternative powered cars, even though electric powered vehicles have been developed since the early 1800s?

Here's something for you to ponder about. I wonder if the movie (something like the Farenheit 9/11 docu-movie) is going to be screened here. Hey, V for Vendetta came out with minimal, if any, cuts.

Can't Wait!!!

Meteoroid in Malaysia?

I came back quite late today. It's already 8.30pm by the time I got home. After a refreshing shower, and performing my prayer, I sat down reading the newspaper while waiting for my dad to return to have dinner.

On the page 4 in Utusan Malaysia, there was an article on an asteroid* narrowly (astronomically speaking) missing Earth. It's reported that should it landed on earth, the impact of the meteoroid** would equal that of several nuclear bombs, depending on its mass and the location of impact. The report, however failed to mention about the size of the asteroid.

On page 9, there'a another incident, where a meteroid crashed in Ulu Yam. The report, coupled with an artist's impression on the incident, reports that 16 families had to be evacuated temporarily, and authorities had confirmed that the dam did not suffer any structural damage. The crash was felt in a 5km radius. It was even reported that a witness, known as Pak Salleh, recounted his experience as the meteorite flew in front of him before it crashed.

Later my Dad returns and told us about what the people at the surau was talking about. You guessed it...about the asteroid and the meteoroid. One of them, claims to have seen the meteor** falling out of the sky from his office in KLCC. He even told how the meteor's burning weirdly, unlike anything he'd seen before.

Then, I saw it. The truth...and I was like, WTF!!!It was actually a DIGI advertisement. I missed the small "Iklan" printed on the article, and only after I see the TV ad did I see it. I mean, how obvious can an amateur reporter reports an incident with crytal clear footage and a quirky old man named Pak Salleh even tried to flirt with her.

It's just...the man from surau believed it so much that he created a story that he saw it himself! Now I would like to be around when they broke the news to him, that it's just a bad advertorial joke. And by claiming you saw the meteorite too, you're officially the joke.

*asteroid = a floating body in space, usually in forms of dust, rock and/or ice particle.
**A meteorite is an extraterrestrial body that survives its impact with the Earth's surface without being destroyed. While in space it is called a meteoroid. When it enters the atmosphere, air resistance causes the body to heat up and emit light, thus forming a fireball, also known as a meteor or shooting star. - Wikipedia
